Duathlon – Wrapping up to wrap up 2023

The final event of the year was the club duathlon held at Covenham reservoir on 29th December. The relentless rain paused for a couple of hours to allow the participants to brave the strong, cold winds.

The first lady was Claire Jackson and first man Richard Roe. A big thank you to Sean and Julie for standing out in the cold to organise and time the event.

Beginners Swim Course Completion

Another set of swimmers successfully completed Mag’s 8 week Beginners swim course. The participants all successfully mastered the front crawl and now just need to continue their hard efforts.

So often, swimming is the barrier to budding triathletes, but these fantastic beginners courses really help people to overcome that. Look out for more courses in 2024.

10k TDA

The 10k Away Day on Dec 16th was the biggest ever, with 28 ladies and 18 gentlemen participating. Paul Snowden headed the mens table with 4 loops in a time of 3hours 28mins and Jane McKay headed the ladies with 3 loops in 2hours and 39mins.

It was a great day of running, jeffing and walking with PBs and lots of support for each other. Mags had her work cut out; but very successfully kept everyone going in the right direction through out the day. Well done to everyone.

Pairs XC at Wold Newton

Sunday 12th November saw LTC triathletes running and biking round a cross country course for the first event of the 2024 league. Mark and Jill slipped and slided their way to 1st place. Honourable mention to Lottie for dragging Sean round in a pretty quick time.
A massive thank you to Birgit and Hamish for the course set up; which is probably harder than doing the event itself.

Pairs Sprint Triathlon

The 2023 Season’s competitons ended with the Pairs Sprint Triathlon on 17th Sept. The format encourages close and unpredicatable racing with the fastest athletes being paired with the slowest.

This was proved on the day with the mid table pairing of Ant and Neil finishing just ahead of the top and bottom pairing of Clare and Martin.

Final League Table.

After a full 2023 season of racing the Queen of the season is Abi and the King is Martin.

Well done to both of them.

Louth Triathletes Representing GB

This season Lisa Adams and Martin Ball represented GB Age Groups at the European Middle Distance Championships in Belgium and Ruth Bullen represented GB Age Group at the Worlds Standard Distance Championship in Spain.

Louth Tri Club go to Outlaw
The weekend of 22/23rd September saw Louth Tri Club athletes and their supporters having a great weekend at the Thoresby Park Outlaw X event.

22 people raced in the Sprint event on Saturday. Several people completed their first open water triathlon and there were some excellent age group results. Martin Ball took top honours by winning the event overall.

The club then manned a run feed station on Sunday while Rowena and Bruce competed in the 70.3.

TT Series

The 2023 Summer series of 6 x 10 mile time trials held at Covenham and South Reston have been completed. It was a great series with some well attended races and a very high standard of racing.

As always, a special thanks must go to everyone who gave up their time to marshal. These events could not run without you.

The league table has been updated to include the TT results.

Longest Day Ride

Saturday 17th June saw bleary eyed riders setting off at 5am to ride looped courses every hour, on the hour, to celebrate the longest day.

Kindly hosted by Mags and Sean many riders put in some huge mileage over the day, setting new distance records for themselves.

Home Made Olympic Triathlon
The HMO took place on Sunday 4th June with a fully subscribed entry of 20 triathletes. Over the 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run there were some great performances in a very well organised event.  Abi Tinker just beat Claire Jackson by 16 seconds to take the female category and Ross McGregor won the battle with Martin Ball in the male category.

Triple Celebration Party

The party to celebrate winning the Huub England National Triathlon Club of the Year, the club’s 10th anniversary and the success of so many of our triathletes at the Outlaw 70.3 took place on Friday 26th May.

I’m not allowed to put up many of the pictures and videos – you had to be there. Suffice to say, when your coach arrives home with just one shoe, it has been a good night.

Outlaw 70.3

Sunday 21st May saw over 30 of our athletes competing at the Outlaw 70.3 in Nottingham. Great performances across the board saw personal targets achieved; whether that was completing their first gruelling 70.3 or a strong result in their age group. Many of the completers even made it to swim training on Wednesday for a photo.

THE

LONG

There was a strong turn out for the first club 70.3 in a weekend. Supported and marshalled by fellow club members; the Triathletes pushed themselves to new levels of distance and performance in all disciplines during the event designed and organised by Martin.

Congratulations to Rowena for completing the London Marathon. Running for Louth Tri Club, Rowena finished in an excellent 4hrs 8mins

Fulstow 10k Run

1st Lady was Abi Tinker
1st Male was Martin Ball

Louth Tri Club are the Huub England Triathlon National Club of the Year 2023

Aquathlon Series Results

Ross McGregor’s superb performances at all 3 Aquathlons in the series give him the overall male win with Martin Ball in 2nd and Neil Pridgeon in 3rd.

Abi Tinker was the overall female winner from Rowena Burgess in 2nd and Ruth Bullen in 3rd.

Sean Hutchings was the Aquabike winner with Mags Hutchings in 2nd and Claire Jackson in 3rd.

Club League Standings

Following the Aquathlon; with 3 events completed in the season Mags Hutchings and Gail Castledine are joint leaders of the Female League table.

Similarly Mark Lyon and Colin Thompson are the joint leaders of the Male League Table.

Aquathlon Round 3

The 3rd and final round of the 2023 Aquathlon series was another great turn out despite the clocks going forward an hour the night before. Big thanks to Mags for stepping in to run the event at the last minute.

Aquathlon Round 2

Round 2 of the 2023 Aquathlon series saw a superb turn out of 30 club members for a fantastic mornings racing. It was exciting to see several people doing their first ever event.

East Midlands Club of the Year 2023

Lee Wallhead (Chairman of East Midlands Triathlon) came along to the swim training session on 22nd February to present this prestigious award to the Louth Tri Club.

A fantastic accolade for the club and testament to the support and spirit of every member of the club.

Well done everyone.

Triathletes are guinea pigs

On Tuesday 21st February Louth Tri Club were invited to trial the new Strength and Conditioning for Runners session that MLC are developing.
